Virtues of the day of Arafah and Eid al-Adha

One of the most essential events that took place in Dhul-Hijjah, mainly on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah was the sermon by Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) on the mount of Arafah during the Hajj pilgrimage. It is also known as the “Farewell Sermon” and a key event in Islamic history, which provides essential guidance for Muslims.

WHAT IS THE DAY OF ARAFAH, AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

The Day of ‘Arafah is on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, the last month in the Islamic calendar, and it is one of the most important days throughout the year. Pilgrims who have started their Hajj journey go to the mount of Arafah and ask for the forgiveness of Allah for extended periods. For the non-pilgrims, from all around the world, it is the day of mercy, forgiveness, and abundant blessings. It is the day when the believer should increase in making time for prayer AND SUPPL, aiming to spend it alone in asking for Allah’s mercy and blessings.

Additionally, for those who are not performing Hajj, it is highly recommended to fast on this day as reported by Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) stated that the Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) was asked about fasting on the day of ‘Arafah and he said: “It expiates for the past and coming years.Muslim (1162).

Apart from fasting and making dua for yourself, your loved ones, and the Ummah, a Muslim can give in charity in the form of money, donating Quran, or other forms of charity that you can give in the way of Allah.

EID AL ADHA AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE

Eid al-Adha is one of the two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year. It is on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and celebrated as the inclination of Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice of his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah, when he was ordered to do so.

However, Allah replaced a lamb instead of a sacrifice, and thus Muslims offer the sacrifice to honour this dedication to Allah and as a means to cleanse their wealth. Believers also give part of it to the needy, their relatives and keep some meat to themselves as instructed in Islam.
