Six Duties Of A Muslim As A Part Of Good Conduct

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “A Muslim has six rights over another Muslim: to greet him with peace when he is met, to answer his invitation when invited, to advise him when he seeks counsel, to bless him when he sneezes and praises Allah, to visit him when he is sick, and to follow his funeral when he dies.”

WHAT ARE THESE SIX DUTIES?

Greet him with peace when he is met

This means that when a Muslim meets a fellow Muslim, he should greet him with a salam and the other person should reply to the greeting.

    Answer his invitation when invited

If a believer invites someone, one should accept the invitation in a good manner.

Advise him when he seeks counsel

If a believer comes up to a fellow believer hoping to seek counsel, then he should advise him sincerely and help him out.

To bless him when sneezes and praises Allah

If a believer sneezes and praises Allah, then the believer should reply with Yarhamuk Allah which translates to “May Allah have mercy on you”.

To visit him when he is sick

If a fellow believer falls sick, then it is the duty of a Muslim to visit him.

Follow his funeral when he dies

A believer should follow a deceased Muslim’s funeral procession and attend his funeral prayers.
